Minutes from the National Jr Dev Meeting 07

Attendees: Jim Grew, Amanda Wilson (HQ), Brian Wolf (HQ),Charlene Brown(W), Abby Lorenz (MW), Barb Lindy(MW), Hutch Haines(E), Kerry Morgan(S), Scott Greenwood(SC) and Debbie Lamb

  1. Party:  It was decided to purchase 3 or 4 large gifts with the raffle money from each region.  This worked well at the party.  We charged an entry fee of $10.00 per child, which helped our finances.
  2. Email list and co chair:  It was stressed that each region should try to have both an email list of their juniors and try to find a co chair to help them with duties.  A co chair will help with a smooth transition when the chair decides to “retire” or be able to attend the national meeting when the chair is unavailable.
  3. Highlighting Juniors:  Each region is encouraged to make use of the Wateskier Magazine, Websites, etc. to recognize juniors, especially those who may not get recognized on a regular basis.  This could be done on a monthly basis.
  4. Video:  We would still like to have a junior video at the awards presentation.  Another email could be sent out requesting for volunteers to do this.  Otherwise, we need to look at our budget and see if we can afford this.
  5. Funds:  We need to continue to explore ways to raise funds.
  6. Email exchanges between committee members:  It would be helpful if the committee would exchange emails with their region’s concerns, ideas and problems.  This communication would start a dialogue that might help to solve the different problems that a particular region may be experiencing.  Some concerns that were brought up during the meeting were as follows:
    1. One region is experiencing a state within its region that will not allow juniors from other states to participate in clinics.  It seems to be a separate entity from the rest of the region.
    2. Two regions are having trouble giving out awards at their regional tournaments.  There is no separate junior awards banquet and/or no time allowed for presentation of jr awards. Therefore awards such as most improved may have to be sent out to the juniors or given out during the tournament.   Without the ability to present awards and the all star teams to everyone, they loose their value which is to recognize the juniors.  The regional tournament is a great place in which to recognize the juniors in the region!
    3. One region would like to see that the members of the 24 member team from their region get more recognition.
